Bruny Island Tour – Dolphins & Seals!

Only having been here for a couple of hours, I soon discovered there is absolutely nothing to do in Hobart.

It is a small port city with a population of approximately 200,000, so it lacks all the “big” attractions of a city like Melbourne or Sydney. It is very reminiscent of San Francisco because it has endless uphill streets, beautiful San Francisco-like houses, and its weather shifts from foggy & rainy to sunny & beautiful each passing day.

Anyway as I mentioned, despite being a tourist city, there is nothing to actually do IN Hobart… you have to go OUTSIDE Hobart to do anything worthwhile.

So I decided to take a cruise of Bruny Island… a small island off the southern part of Tasmania. It turned out to be incredible… a little rainy & very cold, but totally worth it. I got to see seals, sea lions, penguins, and awesome rock/cave formations from only a few short meters away.

But the most spectacular part came at the end when the driver of the ship took us way out into the middle of the ocean where we found a school of dolphins…. AMAZING! And for some reason (like all dolphins), the just followed us and swam right by the front of our boat, occasionally jumping out of the water and giving us picture perfect moments.

Luckily, I was in the front row of the boat, so I got to see the dolphins from only a couple of feet away – I could practically touch them! I have always thought they were beautiful creatures, but this boat tour only sealed the deal. It is one thing to see them on TV, but to see them in real life jumping out of the water from 4 feet away and splashing water in your face… nothing like it! This trip will be something I never forget… only Tasmania… good memories, good memories.

P.S. They served us salmon and blueberry muffins for lunch… MUY SABROSO!
